ABOUT

Bae Soo-young spent eighteen years studying in Osaka, Japan. Bae graduated from Osaka University of Arts and completed master’s and doctoral coursework there in Art Production. Bae first made a name as an installation artist with a first solo installation exhibition in Osaka in 2006. Since returning to Korea in 2011, Bae has worked across many roles: installing work at the Alpensia Resort in support of Korea’s PyeongChang Olympic bid, planning the public-art broadcast project “DNA Korea Art, Changing the World,” appearing in a UNIQLO AIRism advertisement, and collaborating with LG Lacvert on a cushion compact using electronic circuits, the motif of the work. Bae now concentrates on recycled flat art made from discarded circuit boards. Recently Bae joined the Art Token NFT platform as an artist and presents works across installation, sculpture and flat media. By reconfiguring discarded materials and electric circuits, Bae metaphorically evokes a new birth and runs it through the shape of our lives. Bae’s inward reflection holds a metaphor of hope that embraces healing and communication.
