ABOUT

Ha Tae-im was born in 1973 as the eldest daughter of the late painters Ha In-doo and Ryu Min-ja. She graduated from the École nationale supérieure d’art de Dijon in 1994 and the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1998, then returned to Korea and received her doctorate in Painting from the College of Fine Arts at Hongik University in 2012. She has held solo exhibitions at Gana Art Center, Gallery Joeun, Schema Art Museum and elsewhere, and has taken part in many group and curated exhibitions including KIAF, Art Busan and the Hwarang Art Fair. Her works are held by the Seoul Museum of Art, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, a contemporary art museum in Monaco, the Doosan Group and others. Known for her sensuous abstract series Un Passage, her work is better known as the “Color Band” than by its formal title “Passage.” The thick, gently curving color bands seen on her canvases symbolize “harmony” and “communication.” In Un Passage, the transparency and grain of the color bands, with their overlaps, crossings, misalignments and repetitions, form a structured image; through the visual-perceptual phenomena that bright, lively color and form create on the flat surface, multilayered depth is added, and flow and speed arise.
