ABOUT

“I wanted to be free from the bondage of color. Until not long ago, our society did not allow the choice of primary colors. Look at the cars on the street: each carries a few dull colors on its back. In the past, choosing a vivid color invited the charge of frivolity, or suspicious eyes on one’s ideology. Vivid color is, in fact, modern. I try to use any color in my own way. Choosing color may be the only power an artist enjoys.”

“Primary colors are showy, but if used wrongly they can be frivolous, and repetitive patterns can sometimes damage the depth of a work.” This is what an older artist I met at an exhibition a few years ago argued. Perhaps for that reason, quite a few artists steer clear of such a challenge.

  • Graduated in Western painting from Chungnam National University
